I am amazed at how many people say they “don’t wear makeup” or “don’t need makeup.” I actually just met a business women the other day who upon learning that I was a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant told me she “enjoys being ugly.” Funny thing is I was actually only giving her my business card so she could send me the papers for the puppy I had just adopted from her, but that’s another post. Well, what I really wanted to say to her comment was ‘and your succeeding very well at it,’ but my mom always told me if you can’t say something nice…you know the rest. So instead I just smiled and well said ”okay then.” Perhaps I should send her ”Eyeing my career in a world without mascara” published in the Washington Business Journal – by Lucy Chabot Reed (also in several other business journals as well) to see what the business world would say about it. http://www.bizjournals.com/washington/stories/2002/08/05/editorial4.html
This article may have been published in 2002 but I believe it still rings volumes today. Most people wouldn’t dream of going into the business world with wrinkled clothes, deeming that unprofessional, so why do they feel its okay to head into the office without a finished look to their hair or face. I am proud to say that I am the Makeup Type and I would no sooner dream of leaving home without at least my mascara and lip gloss then I would go out without brushing my teeth.
